Life Lessons a la Lola’s Skateboard Instructor
I love Lola’s skateboard instructor. For a kid in his mid-twenties he is surprisingly intuitive about the psyche of a nine year old girl.

I also love Lola's instructor and love your post! Thanks, Art Smukler
Great post, and such an important lesson. Curiously, I blogged this week that closely parallels yours!
"She showed that when you are given space and time to believe in your own abilities without judging yourself, you can soar. And Sam reminded me that overthinking things leads to fear. "
love.
Carrie's quotation from your posting, kario, is exactly what struck me the most.
That and the fact that Lola was blessed with a natural-born teacher. So much is possible when students and teachers respect one another and try to walk in one another's shoes.
Thank you for this tribute to both Lola and Sam.
Peace.
What a uplifting post. You were fortunate to find such a perfect teacher for Lola! He is wise beyond his years, or perhaps, simply a natural teacher. Allowing her to find success, not showing disappointment in her, gave her permission to trust and excel. Good lessons here!
I want a Sam.
First of all, what a rad little girl you have. A skate boarder? Awesome! Second of all, I am so glad you love her instructor. It is rare to find a person who connects so well with children, who can provide them with a confidence only an outsider can do, who can help them achieve and perform to their very best. Lola is very lucky to have Sam, and you are very lucky to have that kick ass little girl!
Dear Kario, Thank you so much for your perceptive comment on my recent Meniere's posting. As you wrote, it was a crisis of faith.
I think that for most people, Meniere's is an unknown disease. That's why, when it does happen to someone they have no one with whom to talk
who has experienced the disease and knows its progress and ramifications. Their friends try hard to understand, but if a person isn't particularly articulate, then explaining the disease is truly hard.
I'm writing about it because I'd like to help others understand the disease and I'd like to reach out to those who have it so they'd know they aren't alone.
Have a lovely weekend, one filled with possibilities.
I love this story and the lessons you offer with it. Wow!
Beautiful. I love that your girl is skateboarding. What a cool chick!
What a wonderful way to teach and build confidence! How lucky for Lola to experience such a wise young man in her life.
